Custom Orthotics & Gait Analysis

At Stride Clinic, we believe successful treatment starts with understanding the cause of a problem, not simply treating the symptoms. Following a comprehensive assessment by one of our specialist podiatrists, we will develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, lifestyle and goals.

Your treatment plan may include rehabilitation exercises, stretching programmes, footwear advice, activity modification, strength and conditioning recommendations, and where appropriate, orthotic therapy.

insoles & Orthotics

What Are Orthotics?

Orthotics (insoles) are medical devices designed to improve foot function, reduce excessive stress on joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments, and provide support where it is needed most. They can be highly effective in reducing pain, improving mobility, enhancing sporting performance and helping to prevent recurring injuries.

Orthotics are not a one-size-fits-all solution. The most appropriate device will depend on your diagnosis, foot structure, gait pattern, activity levels, footwear requirements and treatment goals.

Do I Need Custom Orthotics?

Not necessarily.

Many patients achieve excellent results with simple interventions such as footwear changes, targeted exercises, temporary orthotic devices or high-quality prefabricated insoles. These can be particularly effective for short-term injuries, growing children, mild biomechanical issues, or when trialling a treatment approach.

For more complex conditions, long-term management, injury prevention or biomechanical optimisation, a bespoke orthotic may be recommended. Custom orthoses are individually prescribed using detailed clinical assessment and gait analysis data to provide a highly personalised solution.

Conditions Commonly Treated with Orthotics

Orthotic therapy may be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain

  • Achilles tendinopathy

  • Tendon and ligament injuries

  • Metatarsalgia and forefoot pain

  • Morton's neuroma

  • Arthritis and joint pain

  • Flat feet and overpronation

  • Sports and running injuries

  • Diabetic foot complications

  • Lower limb overuse injuries

  • Certain knee, hip and lower back complaints

Advanced Gait Analysis & 3D Printed Orthotics

Stride Clinic utilises award-winning Footscan gait analysis technology and Phits 3D-printed orthotics to assess how your feet and lower limbs function during walking and running.

This advanced technology allows us to analyse pressure distribution, timing and movement patterns in real time, enabling highly personalised orthotic prescriptions designed to improve comfort, reduce pain and optimise movement efficiency.

A Comprehensive Approach

Research consistently shows that orthotics are often most effective when prescribed as part of a broader treatment programme. For this reason, orthotic therapy is frequently combined with rehabilitation exercises, footwear advice, strength and conditioning programmes, manual therapy and activity modification to achieve the best possible long-term outcomes.

Whether your goal is to return to walking comfortably, remain active and independent, recover from injury, or maximise sporting performance, our experienced clinicians can help you move with confidence.

Unless on repeat prescription, all functional insoles/orthotics require an MSK/Biomechanical Assessment.
